David Sawler has spent the last decades as a community advocate. He helped create Undercurrent Youth Centres which has a goal of breaking youth of of cycles of poverty and addiction. He is presently the Co-Chair for the Public Advisory Group for Mental Health and Addictions for the Eastern Zone, as well as, being a member of the provincial group. For the past years David has been at the forefront of the creation of community transformation plan for communities in the CBRM. David and his wife, Shirley, live in Glace Bay, where they are happy empty nesters, although they are parent figures for countless kids and youth in the community.
